'Official rules for the Broome and Tioga county fairs and associated derbies'- the rules that you are about to read are the only modifications that you can make to your car. If we see anything we don't like, we will ask that you remove it. If you don't comply, you'll load your car.

  5. Any hardtop or station wagon is allowed, no trucks, jeeps or SUV's.
  6. Safety belts and helmets are REQUIRED. Any driver whose helmet comes off during the derby is automatically disqualified.
  7. 'Pick-Up Truck Demo-Derby' has it's own set of rules. When building a truck be sure to follow those rules.
  8. Absolutely no alcoholic beverages are permitted in the pit area at any time. Any driver determined by the event staff to be under the influence is immediately disqualified. This rule will be strictly enforced! Any driver disobeying any rules will be disqualified and entry fees will not be returned!
  9. There will be no intentional hitting on drivers doors. This will result in immediate disqualification. All drivers will be given one minute to hit another car, no possum. This will be strictly enforced. This is your warning!
  10. All cars are to be removed from the track no later than noon of the day following the event. All cars left will be considered abandoned and disposed of by the fair. You are responsible for your car at all times.
  11. Any car that catches fire is disqualified.
  12. Four cylinder cars should remove the front plastic part of the bumper.
Bumpers:
Only factory mounted bumpers are allowed on the front and rear of the car. There will be no changing of bumpers on the 1960 to 1969 Chrysler Imperial. This means that the car has to run the stock bumpers.

Bumpers can be welded to the car, but there should be no metal added other than small nuts and bolts. This is at the judge's discretion. There may not be any steel in the bumper area. This means no flat, channel, square, U-shaped, or any other shaped steel. If the bumper needs to be repositioned it may be done using the minimal amount of welding and using eight inches of 3/8's threaded rod on each frame rail, one per side, no exceptions.

You will be able to use small diameter threaded rod, no bigger than 3/4", to anchor the bumper to the frame. No truck bumpers are allowed on the front or rear of the car. Any modification to the brackets needs to look professional or it will not be accepted. Wrecked cars only will be able to lay a 2" long by 1/2" wide bead of weld to reconnect the bumper to the frame, no metal will be allowed in this area. Anything else done other than that stated above, will not be allowed.

Frames:
There shall be no reinforcement to the frame of any car. The only welding allowed on the frame will be in positioning of the threaded rod that goes through the hood. No reinforcing of body bolts shall be allowed, stock sized bolts and stock holes only. The only thing allowed will be the use of the 3", flat, round washers no thicker than 1/8".

The reinforcing of the front suspension on the 78 and newer GM cars is allowed only to equal the Chrysler front suspension. Position one bolt on one side of each A arm, welding or bolting is allowed.

There will be not clamping the frame rails with strips of metal that sandwiches the body and frame together. All trailer hitches must be removed from all cars. There will be nothing allowed to hold the sub frame up in any car. This means no bolts, steel plates, wire, cable, and/or strapping. We ask that you remove all this stuff before entering the fair. There are no excuses for rusty or pre-run cars.

We will allow Three 5/8 size bolts throughout the inside of the car. You will not be able to change sub frames from other cars, stock only.

Body:
Doors may be welded, chained or cabled. Windshields will be allowed, however all other glass and chrome will be stripped off the car and the car will be swept clean. There will be two 8" holes located in the middle of the hood and trunk of the car. There will be one pipe no larger than 4" in diameter placed in back of the front seats, positioned horizontally. there will be no other type of design allowed to go in this position. Absolutely no pipes in the dash, failure to comply results in disqualification until further notification.

The car numbers will be placed on both doors and the roof. There will be no metal added to the car's body on the inside or underneath. We will allow the outside seems (doors, hood, and trunk) to be welded. The cars with the fans sticking out of the hood will not be able to race due to safety reasons. Any body modifications will be allowed as long as there is no metal added or welded to the cars body (ex: crushing back of car to change appearance). There will be no added metal to the floor or any other part of the car. If there is a hole, use galvanized or aluminum sheet metal.

The original gas tank must be removed from the rear of the car before it enters the fair grounds. Entering the fair grounds with the original gas tank still attached results in disqualification.

Inside the Car:
All cars will have the battery securely fastened down on the floor of the passenger side of the car. This needs to be covered with a rug or a piece of rubber. All cars will have a steel gas tank in the back seat area of the car. This will be secured and covered with steel sheet metal. Gas tank positioning is strictly enforced!

The use of floor shifters is allowed. A working seat belt is required. The belt must be secured to the body of the car by a bolt positioned under the driver seat. Safety belt positioning is strictly enforced!

The use of transmission coolers will be allowed. However, they need to be in the back and covered with steel. Any fuel, oil, or transmission lines that are not safe, will be rejected. These safety precautions are strictly enforced!

Rear-ends:
  • Stock type rear end
  • No steel reinforced shocks
  • Only steel strapping 1/8" thick by 1" wide allowed to clamp rear springs
